The High Priestess from the Tarot, Major Arcana, represents human wisdom before the fall of man. She represents Eve in the Christian tradition and the snake and bird Goddesses in the older traditions. Isis, Persephone, Artemis are just a few of the many Goddesses of antiquity.

In my depiction of The High Priestess, I showed her with twin flowers to represent the two pillars at Solomon’s Temple. The High Priestess’s location between the two suggests her role as a mediator between the duality of reality.

She is the path in between negative and positive or good and evil - the third pillar. She holds the rising pomegranate colored moon as the crown of Isis.

The colors of The High Priestess are blue, pomegranate and white. She’s wearing a pomegranate-colored top, and her ink is shown in light cobalt blue, the color of her eyes. Her skin is surreally white, almost glowing in her verdant green setting.

I chose to have a dragonfly hovering in the lush tropical forest background since there’s an element of magic and inter dimensional travel to these carnivorous insects. The High Priestess signifies spiritual enlightenment, inner illumination, divine knowledge and wisdom.

The High Priestess is the guardian of the subconscious mind and the teacher of sacred things and occult mysteries. She wears the Isis Sigil within my painting. The High Priestess is the calm center in us that is untouched by the external world.
