Winter Buck is inspired by multi-media artist and photographer Sarah Brighton, who captured a photograph of this stunning animal one evening in her garden, a designated nature preserve.
I loved the deep contrast between the green foliage and the night side of the composition. One side of the canvas has the early winter’s silvery light peeking through and the other is deep black. I prepared the canvas with Aura wall paint in Onyx, then layered Pearlescent White over the left-hand side.
The young Buck is frozen in a perfectly balanced moment in time, glowing in the last rays of the setting sun.
