Starry Owl is a painting that’s part of the Shades of Magic series and which showcases the magical and mysterious elements. Owls are part of occulted
symbolism, as is the moon.

The full moon is glowing in the background, larger and more detailed than life. The owl perches on a branch, thinking it’s own contemplative thoughts. The
starry sky envelopes it, adding the final touch to the magical evening atmosphere.

I love complimentary colors (opposites on the color wheel) and in this painting, I explored the dynamic between warm and cool; of ultramarine
blue/violet paired with golden orange.

Starry Owl is not a narrative art, like some of the other works in Shades of Magic, yet it provides a sense of rest and relaxation for the viewer.
Reality with a boost, is how a friend of mine once described my magic realist style.
